Wednesday was Amanda's birthday so I'd offered to take her out for a day road trip of her choice. I made some suggestions and she chose Ocean City and Assateague Island as our destinations.

Our first stop was Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. The wind was frigidly cold, but there were lots to photograph, so we both ventured out.

Snow Geese winter here, so there were thousands of them.

Pelicans also winter there, but this was the first time I'd actually seen them this close. Usually they are way out on sandbars.

We also photographed some herons and vultures and the like. By the time we got back in the car, we were both frozen but much more awake.

We stopped at a few thrift stores along the way, grabbed some lunch and wandered around Ocean City. With a bit more than an hour before sunset we arrived at Assateague. The light was amazing...

We didnt get back to Annapolis until after 9, at which point I was just brain dead. I'd been up since before 6 and on the run all day. At least Amanda got to sleep a bit more after I'd picked her up in the morning. lol
